Babinet Compensator for Physics Lab

Babinet Compensator is designed for analyzing elliptically polarized light. The instrument consists of two circular scales, one with an index and the other with a vernier. The index scale is used for adjusting the analyzer into the azimuth, while the vernier scale is used for measuring the degree of orientation of the wedge box.

The wedge box contains two quartz wedges cut in mutually perpendicular directions of the optical axis. The long wedge is movable by means of a micrometer drum, which allows accurate measurement of its movement.
