Bed-load transportmeter for Sludge & Sediment Samplers

The bed-load transport meter, type Arnhem, is a streamlined sediment sampler mounted in a supporting frame. It consists of a sampling mouth connected to a fine wire-mesh collection basket with a mesh width of 300 ?m. It is designed to collect sediment and gravel particles transported along the riverbed.

The reduction in water velocity inside the wider sampling chamber allows sediment particles to settle and accumulate. The specially shaped sampling mouth maintains the initial water velocity while allowing water and fine particles to pass through. A stabilising tail fin mounted on the frame keeps the sampler oriented in the upstream direction.

Measurement results are influenced by riverbed conditions such as ridges, dunes and flat surfaces. Therefore, knowledge of the riverbed profile is essential for successful sampling. The collected sample can be discharged on board using the sample trough.
