Biquartz Polarimeter for Physics Lab Experiments

Ideal for basic lab applications and determining the specific rotation of optically active substances. This rugged unit is mounted on a heavy casted streamlined body. It works on the principle of partial shade and can accommodate glass tubes up to 200 mm length. The reading is done via the eyepiece with verniers. The light source must be monochromatic light only, i.e. Sodium Vapour Lamp. The unit is used for measuring concentrations and optical rotations in the food, sugar, flavours, fragrance, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. It is also extensively used in schools and colleges as an educational tool.

Working Principle :

• When light passes through a polarized sheet and then through the solution, the emerging light is observed through the rotatable polarized lens and analyzer.
• The angle of light rotation is read directly on the circular scale.
• The variable biquartz plate effect is used to obtain a balance between the two halves of a circle when viewed through an eyepiece.
• The reading is then taken from the scale.
