The standard double ring infiltrometer set is designed for conducting simultaneous infiltration measurements in triplicate.

Water infiltration into soil is an important indicator of irrigation and drainage efficiency. Measuring the infiltration rate helps optimise water availability for plants, improve crop yields and minimise soil erosion.

The double ring infiltrometer is used to determine the rate at which water enters the soil. The infiltration rate is expressed as the volume of water penetrating the soil per unit area and per unit time. It can be calculated from the measurement results using Darcy's Law.

The standard set consists of multiple stainless steel ring sets with different diameters for convenient transportation. During testing, water infiltrating vertically may also move sideways through the soil. The outer ring acts as a barrier to reduce lateral water movement, while measurements are taken from the inner ring, where water infiltration is predominantly vertical.
