Ekman grab set for Sludge & Sediment Samplers

The Ekman grab sampler is designed for collecting soft sediment samples and has a sampling capacity of approximately 3.5 litres. It measures 152 × 152 × 152 mm and is manufactured entirely from inert stainless steel. Its overlapping flaps help prevent sample loss during collection.

The sampler features two thin hinged flaps that remain open while being lowered. The spring-loaded flaps close when a drop weight is released in cable-operated mode or when a button is pressed in rod-operated mode. This mechanism allows sampling from very soft surface sediment layers. The pressure exerted by the collected sample helps minimise material loss.

The sampler is equipped with a drop-weight system for collecting samples at different depths. A 1.5 m operating rod is also available for shallow-water sampling. Small stones or plant stalks may prevent the grab from closing properly.
