The Electron Beam Deflection Tube Experiment Complete Set Up is designed for advanced physics laboratories to study the behavior of electron beams in electric and magnetic fields. The experiment enables students to investigate thermionic emission, electrostatic and magnetic deflection of electrons, determine electron velocity, and estimate the specific charge (e/m) of an electron. The system features a focused electron beam, fluorescent screen, and precision measurement scale for accurate observation of electron trajectories.
Objectives :
- Study thermionic emission of electrons
- Investigate electron beam deflection in electric fields
- Investigate electron beam deflection in magnetic fields
- Estimate the specific charge (e/m) of an electron
- Determine the velocity of electrons
Principle :
- The experiment uses an electron beam deflection tube in which electrons emitted from a heated cathode are accelerated and focused into a narrow beam inside an evacuated glass tube. The beam can be deflected electrostatically using parallel deflection plates or magnetically using Helmholtz coils. The electron path is observed on a fluorescent screen with an integrated scale, allowing measurements of beam deflection, electron velocity, and the charge-to-mass ratio (e/m).
