Objectives :
- Determine the energy band gap of semiconductor diodes
- Determine the energy band gap of LEDs
- Study the effect of temperature on semiconductor characteristics
- Understand the relationship between temperature and electrical conductivity
- Investigate semiconductor energy band theory
Principle :
- At absolute zero temperature, semiconductors behave as insulators. As temperature increases, thermal energy excites electrons, allowing them to overcome the energy gap between the valence band and conduction band. This energy required to break the covalent bonds is known as the energy band gap (Eg). The experiment determines the band gap by analyzing the electrical characteristics of semiconductor devices at different temperatures.
