+91 98967 93832The Torsion Pendulum Apparatus is designed to study free and forced harmonic rotational oscillations. It enables students to investigate the effects of damping, resonance, and angular frequency in rotational motion. An electromagnetic eddy current brake provides adjustable damping, while a motor-driven eccentric mechanism produces forced oscillations for resonance studies. The apparatus is suitable for analyzing oscillation characteristics, determining the natural frequency, and comparing experimental results with theoretical predictions. Manufactured by Atico Export India.
Principle
The experiment is based on the rotational oscillation of a torsion pendulum. During free oscillations, the oscillation amplitude gradually decreases due to damping and follows an exponentially decaying harmonic motion. The damping level can be varied using an electromagnetic eddy current brake to study underdamped, critically damped, and overdamped conditions. Forced oscillations are produced by a motor-driven eccentric mechanism, allowing the resonance characteristics of the system to be investigated by varying the excitation frequency.
