The Electron Deflection in Electric and Magnetic Fields apparatus is designed to study the motion of an electron beam under the influence of electric and magnetic fields. The experiment enables students to observe electron beam deflection, determine the radius of the circular electron path, and calculate the specific charge (e/m) of the electron. It provides a practical understanding of charged particle motion and the interaction of electrons with electric and magnetic fields. Manufactured by Atico Export India.
Principle
Electrons emitted from an electron gun are accelerated by an anode voltage and travel through a vacuum tube. When subjected to an electric field, the electron beam is deflected due to the electrostatic force. When placed in the magnetic field generated by Helmholtz coils, the electrons follow a circular path due to the magnetic force. By measuring the beam radius for different operating conditions and relating it to the applied anode voltage and magnetic field strength, the specific charge (e/m) of the electron can be determined experimentally.
