This is used to measure the coefficient of linear expansion of different metals.
The apparatus consists of a metal rod, enclosed in a well lagged, nickel-plated brass tube with three tubes for steam inlet, steam outlet and a thermometer.
The metal rod to be studied is supported in the steam jacket by detachable conical cups situated at each end of the tube.
The metal rod is heated by steam, passing through the brass tube.
The apparatus is carried on a heavy gauge base, with an adjusting screw at one end.
At the opposite end is a micrometer screw reading to 0.01 mm, for measuring the expansion.
Dimensions of the metal rod: Length = 500 mm, Diameter = 4.5 mm.
The apparatus includes copper, brass and iron rods.
Thermometer is not included and can be bought separately.
