+91 98967 93832Newton’s Rings Apparatus is designed to study the interference pattern formed when light is reflected between a spherical surface and an adjacent flat surface.
In the apparatus, light from the condenser lens falls on a plane glass plate inclined at 45° and is reflected vertically downward onto a combination of a plano-convex lens and a plane glass plate. A portion of the light is reflected from the lower convex surface of the lens, while another portion is reflected from the upper surface of the plane glass plate.
The phase difference between the two wavefronts produces dark and bright concentric rings. These rings are observed through a microscope equipped with an achromatic objective, Ramsden eyepiece, and cross-line graticule. The diameter of the rings can be measured using the micrometer arrangement.
