This apparatus is designed for exploring the concept of electromagnetic induction.
It consists of two coils: a primary coil wound with thicker-gauge enameled copper wire with fewer turns, and a secondary coil wound with thinner-gauge enameled copper wire with a greater number of turns.
Both coils are wound on insulated plastic formers and fitted with 4 mm socket terminals.
The primary coil has an approximate resistance of 0.5 ohms and is wound on a former measuring approximately 110 × 30 mm (Length × Diameter).
The secondary coil has an approximate resistance of 100 ohms and is wound on a former measuring approximately 120 × 62 mm (Length × Diameter).
The primary coil slides into the secondary coil to provide effective electromagnetic coupling.
The set includes a soft iron cylindrical core that slides into the primary coil, with dimensions of approximately 160 × 15 mm (Length × Diameter).
The apparatus demonstrates how switching direct current on and off in the primary coil produces changes in current and magnetic field, which induce an electromotive force in the secondary coil.
