Total Sediment Tester for Oil Fuel and Petroleum Testing Instruments

The Total Sediment Tester determines total sediment content up to 0.40% m/m in distillate fuel oils containing residual components and up to 0.50% m/m in residual fuel oils with a maximum viscosity of 55 cSt (mm²/s) at 100°C. The test involves filtering a weighed quantity of 10 g of the oil sample through the prescribed apparatus at 100°C. After solvent washing and drying, the sediment retained on the filter medium is weighed. The method can also assess total sediment following fuel pretreatment regimes designed to accelerate the aging process. Some fuels may exceed the specified maximum filtration time due to factors other than significant quantities of insoluble organic or inorganic material.
