When current passes through a circular coil, it produces a magnetic field around the coil.
The apparatus consists of a 1 mm diameter copper wire coil mounted on a plastic base and wound around the same axis as a circular plate measuring approximately 94 mm in diameter.
A plastic sheet passes through the centre of the coil to provide a clear surface for observing magnetic field patterns.
The complete assembly is securely mounted on a wooden base.
Manufactured by Atico Export to meet the practical demands of modern laboratory environments.
Applications
The coil can be used with classical iron filings to demonstrate the magnetic field pattern produced by a current-carrying circular coil.
It can also be used with a compass to observe the magnetic effect of electric current, similar to a tangent galvanometer.
The apparatus enables students to relate the observed magnetic field patterns to the right-hand rule and determine the direction of the magnetic field at the centre of the coil.
