+91 98967 93832The apparatus segregates at reservoir-representative conditions, the components of a three-phase mixture expelled from a core sample. The separator’s wetted parts comprise two vertical bores communicating with each other via a narrow slot whose height equals that of the bores. The narrow slot enhances the phase segregation process. Upon entering the separator, the mixture flows into the first bore, deemed the “separation bore”. By virtue of gravity, the lightest fluid comes to rest at the top, the heaviest fluid at the bottom, and the intermediate fluid in the middle. In the separation bore, an emulsion of all fluids prevents accurate volume determination, whereas in the other bore, two neat interfaces can be observed.
Embedded in the separator wall, on the visualization bore, is a see-through window cell made of two windows mounted opposite each other. The three-level video tracker constantly monitors the position of the two interfaces. The position of the interfaces is directly proportional to the volumes of fluids produced from the core sample and hence the change in saturation profile. The system comprises a high-resolution camera for each level, a back-lighting system installed in the rear of the separator and an image processing software for data storing and monitoring. The latter can automatically detect fluid interface levels and computes both produced fluid volumes and saturation.
