Aircraft Autopilot / Automatic Flight Controls Trainer

The Aircraft Autopilot / Automatic Flight Controls Trainer is an excellent resource for teaching the principles of automatic flight controls through demonstration using a complete system covering roll and pitch axis autopilot and automatic flight controls. The trainer includes a model aircraft that allows students to observe the operation of control surfaces and manually operate them using the yoke and rudder mechanism.

The system includes a realistic autopilot control panel, PFD and MFD displays, motorized yoke, rudder pedal mechanism, throttle and mixture controls, and synchronized flight indicators. Students can operate the aircraft manually or use the autopilot system to control the aircraft control surfaces and study automatic flight control functions.

The trainer supports autopilot, flight director, heading and altitude feedback, engine start procedures, automatic calibration, and instructor-controlled faults and scenarios. The system is mounted on a mobile metal/aluminum frame with four wheels, including two lockable wheels.

PFD/MFD Controls :

• AP Key: Engages/disengages the autopilot and flight director. Pressing the AP Key activates the flight director and engages the autopilot in the default pitch and roll axis modes. Pressing the AP Key again disengages the autopilot and deactivates the flight director.
• HDG Key: Selects/deselects Heading Select Mode.
• NAV Key: Selects/deselects Navigation Mode.
• APR Key: Selects/deselects Approach Mode.
• VS Key: Selects/deselects Vertical Speed Mode.
• FLC Key: Selects/deselects Flight Level Change Mode.
• FD Key: Activates/deactivates the flight director only.
• ALT Key: Selects/deselects Altitude Hold Mode.
• VNV Key: Selects/deselects Vertical Navigation Mode.
• BC Key: Selects/deselects Back Course Mode.
• NOSE UP/NOSE DN Keys: Controls the active pitch reference for Pitch Hold, Vertical Speed and Flight Level Change modes.

• NAV Frequency Transfer Key: Transfers standby and active NAV frequencies.
• Dual NAV Knob: Tunes MHz and kHz standby frequencies for the NAV receiver and toggles the tuning cursor between NAV1 and NAV2 fields.
• Heading Knob: Manually selects a heading on the HSI. When pressed, synchronizes the heading bug with the compass lubber line.
• Joystick: Changes the map range when rotated and activates the map pointer when pressed.
• CRS/BARO Knob: Large knob sets altimeter barometric pressure and small knob adjusts course.
• Dual COM Knob: Tunes MHz and kHz standby frequencies for the COM transceiver.
• COM Frequency Transfer Key: Transfers standby and active COM frequencies. Pressing and holding for two seconds automatically tunes the emergency frequency of 121.5 MHz.
• COM VOL/SQ Knob: Controls COM audio level.
• Direct-to Key: Allows the user to enter a destination waypoint and establish a direct course to the selected destination.
• FPL Key: Displays the active Flight Plan Page for creating/editing the active flight plan or accessing stored flight plans.
• Dual FMS Knob: Press to turn the selection cursor ON/OFF.
• PROC Key: Selects approaches, departures and arrivals from the flight plan and database.
• ENT Key: Accepts menu selections or data entries and confirms operations.
• Dual ALT Knob: Sets selected altitude. Large knob selects thousands and small knob selects hundreds; metric settings provide corresponding metric increments.
