The distillation column generates solvent vapours that are condensed; this pure, hot solvent feeds the cartridge containing the inert solid and solute. When the cartridge is full, the resulting solution (solvent and solute) drains automatically by siphoning (leaching) and returns to the reboiler where the solvent is re-boiled.
