Rising-film evaporation is a continuous process in which the solution is heated in a vertical single-tube evaporator to vaporise the solvent (first effect). In the top cyclone, the mist formed by solution vaporisation — comprising solvent vapour and concentrated solution — is separated into two phases: the concentrated liquid phase is removed by gravity and pumped via a metering pump into the second evaporator, while the vapour phase is used to heat the second evaporator.
