EXPERIMENT: DETERMINATION OF WAVELENGTH OF MONOCHROMATIC LIGHT SOURCE USING MICHELSON INTERFEROMETER
EXPERIMENT SETUP CONSISTS OF:
- Michelson Interferometer – With beam splitter and compensating plate, mirrors thickness 10 mm, flatness of beam splitter: λ/8, least count: 0.01 mm (coarse adjustment knob), least count: 0.0001 mm (fine adjustment knob)
- Semiconductor Diode Laser with power supply, 3 mW and 625 nm wavelength output with built-in beam diffuser
OPTIONAL:
- Sodium Vapour Lamp Set – 35 W low-pressure lamp with wooden housing and power supply
- Digital Fringe Counter – For ease of counting fringes, with the ability to count shrinking or expanding fringes and display the count on an LCD
