The Automated Tail Suspension Test is designed for rapid and reliable screening of the psychotropic properties of pharmacological substances, including antidepressant and sedative effects, in mice. The system evaluates the movements of suspended animals by analyzing the force, energy, and power developed over time. Fully automatic and operator-independent operation allows measurement of up to 6 animals in a single run, with multiple randomization processes available for animal lists and full calibration control. The system provides a short experimental duration, typically around 6 minutes, and allows experiments to be replayed using different analysis parameters. Optional video recording can be used to adjust the activity threshold. Experimental results can be printed or stored in text or spreadsheet-compatible formats, while wireless communication provides additional flexibility.
