Four Plate Box Aron Test for Behavioral Research test

The Four Plate Box is designed for the Aron or four plates test, an animal model of anxiety in which exploration of a novel environment is suppressed by mild electric foot shock. The apparatus consists of a cage with four identical rectangular metal plates separated by narrow gaps. The plates are connected to a shock generator that delivers adjustable electrical foot shocks when the animal moves from one plate to another. Following habituation, the number of punished crossings can be measured during a defined test period.
