Timer Counter Module for Physiology Lab

The Timer Counter Module is designed to operate in conjunction with a Ventilation Control Module used in isolated lung apparatus for applications ranging from mice to rabbits. It functions as a timer or event counter and generates a trigger signal to initiate a deep inspiration cycle (sigh breath). Regular deep inspirations every 5 to 20 minutes help prevent slow collapse of the isolated lung during quiet respiration and can extend the lifetime of the preparation. The module can trigger the ventilation control system at predetermined time intervals or in response to preset time or event counts. Input and Output Trigger Signals :

• Connections are made via jumpers to trigger lines of the 96-pin VG connector from the internal modular system bus

Time Mode :

• Deep inspiration is produced at predetermined time intervals
• Quartz-controlled timer counts down from the selected time to 00
• Counter automatically resets to the selected value
• When 00 is reached, the ventilation control module is triggered to perform the deep inspiration cycle

Count Mode :

• Time or event presetting is selected using a two-digit thumbwheel switch
• Preset range: 00 to 99
• Time or count range can be adjusted using SEC/MIN or x1/x10 selection

Preset :

• Two-digit thumbwheel switch mounted on the front panel
• Preset range: 00 to 99

Warming Function :

• Announces the next triggering operation
• Warning is activated during the final 10 seconds or respiratory cycles
• Visual indication through LED
• Audible indication through built-in loudspeaker
• Provides a reminder that deep inspiration is approaching
• Warning can be inhibited using the SKIP NEXT key to avoid interference during measurements
