The Rolling Thin Film Oven is designed to determine the effects of heat and air on a moving thin film of asphalt. It is used to evaluate changes in asphalt properties during conventional hot-mixing by comparing selected properties, such as viscosity, penetration, and ductility, before and after the 75-minute oven cycle.

The equipment features a double-walled, electrically heated convection oven with a touchscreen control panel, digital airflow control, and timer function. A rotating circular carriage holds the sample bottles and exposes the asphalt to controlled heat and airflow. The system incorporates an over-temperature cut-off and door safety interlock for safe operation.
