Bending Apparatus for Oil and Petroleum Testing Equipment

The Fraass Breaking Point Apparatus is designed to determine the breaking point of solid and semi-solid bituminous materials at low temperatures. A thin steel plaque coated with the sample is flexed in a bending apparatus while the temperature is gradually decreased until cracks appear in the coating.

The apparatus consists of two concentric borosilicate glass tubes with movable steel plate holders. A cone-and-peg mechanism moves the inner tube vertically relative to the outer tube, changing the distance between the holders and flexing the stainless steel test plate. The inner tube accommodates a test thermometer for temperature monitoring.
