Flow Visualization in Channels Teaching Equipment

In research and training, flow processes are often considered in simplified models, such as pipe flows, open-channel drainage processes and incident flow of structures.

The experimental unit is designed to visualize flow around bodies, pipe flows and flow phenomena in open channels. Various models are fixed in the flow section, and streamlines are made visible using injected ink as a contrast medium. The flow section is illuminated from behind and features a transparent front panel.

Open-channel flow is demonstrated using two weirs. The downstream water level can be adjusted with the aid of another weir. Flow through different cross-sections is demonstrated using four models, including a tube bundle. Streamlines in flow around bodies are demonstrated using four drag bodies.

The unit includes a closed water circuit and can alternatively be operated using the laboratory water supply.
