+91 98967 93832During the deceleration, acceleration and deflection of a flowing fluid, its velocity and momentum change. These changes in momentum result in forces. In practical applications, these forces can be used to convert kinetic energy into useful work, such as in hydraulic turbines.
This experimental unit is designed to investigate jet forces and demonstrate the principle of linear momentum. A water jet acts on and is deflected by interchangeable deflectors with different shapes and deflection angles. The unit includes a transparent tank, nozzle, four interchangeable deflectors and a weight-loaded scale.
The force of the water jet can be adjusted by varying the flow rate. Experiments allow the influence of flow velocity, flow rate and deflection angle to be studied. The resulting jet forces are measured using the weight-loaded scale and compared with forces calculated using the momentum equation.
The experimental unit can be positioned easily and securely on a suitable base module work surface. Water can be supplied through the base module or alternatively through a laboratory water supply.
