+91 98967 93832During fluid flow through pipes, pressure losses occur due to internal friction and friction between the fluid and the pipe wall. To calculate these pressure losses, the pipe friction factor, a dimensionless quantity, must be determined. The friction factor is related to the Reynolds number, which represents the ratio of inertia forces to friction forces.
This experimental unit is designed to study the relationship between pressure loss caused by fluid friction and flow velocity in pipe systems. It also enables determination of the pipe friction factor and Reynolds number for different flow conditions.
The unit includes a small-diameter pipe section in which both laminar and turbulent flow can be generated. Reynolds number and pipe friction factor are determined from the measured flow rate and pressure loss. For turbulent flow, water is supplied directly to the test section, while a standpipe with overflow provides the constant pressure required for laminar flow. Valves are used to adjust the flow rate.
Pressure during laminar flow is measured using twin-tube manometers, while pressure during turbulent flow is measured using a dial-gauge manometer. The unit is provided with a wheeled table for convenient relocation.
